Leadership and Individual Journeys

By 2026, Prantakatha had contributed to the journeys of more than 5,000 young people across West Bengal—across differences of gender, sexuality, caste, class, location and lived experience. Many have subsequently become community leaders, professionals, artists, entrepreneurs, caregivers, advocates and founders in their own right.

Networks of Care and Belonging

Margin as Method has helped cultivate networks of trust, solidarity and care that continue beyond Prantakatha’s direct organisational control. These are living relationships through which people support one another, respond to crises and create belonging.

Transgender Adhikar Sanghati Mancha — care and solidarity network of approximately 150 transgender youth.
ADOR — care network of approximately 45 homeless and marginalised older women.
Melting Pot — learning and relationship network connecting approximately 100 young people across West Bengal.
UTTORON — care network of approximately 100 homeless young mothers and their children in Kolkata.
SAYAN — a South Asian learning, solidarity and care network for LGBTQIA+ youth.

PESHA

Livelihood and Economic Agency

Leadership cannot remain sustainable without economic agency. As leadership emerged from marginalised locations, Prantakatha’s work organically expanded towards livelihood, entrepreneurship, market access and dignified work.

Trans Mark

A collective and enterprise-support platform for transgender entrepreneurs, bringing together entrepreneurship training, mentoring, seed support, market access and curated pop-up markets.

Bokulphool

A transgender-led social enterprise rooted in Bengal’s handloom, art, craft and cultural heritage, bringing lived identity, aesthetic expression and entrepreneurship together.

Bike Da

An emerging livelihood and entrepreneurship initiative designed to create dignified work opportunities for transgender and other marginalised youth through professional two-wheeler care services.

PRATISHTHAN

Institutions and Systems

Some of Prantakatha’s most important outcomes are institutions and pathways that did not previously exist. These initiatives bring communities and formal systems closer together.

ANTAR

ANTAR creates safer pathways to general healthcare, endocrinology, mental-health support and gender-affirming care for transgender people. It is a bridge between medicine and lived experience, expertise and empathy, institutions and people.

NAAy Sahayak

A community-rooted access-to-justice programme supporting people facing identity-documentation, legal-recognition and rights-related barriers through trained community facilitators, case navigation and legal referrals.

Pride Justice Lab

A platform for building practical legal capacity through paralegal training, accessible legal resources, case-based learning, referral pathways and community leadership.

POLICY

From Lived Experience to Public Change

Prantakatha brings knowledge generated through lived experience into conversations with commissions, governments, hospitals, legal institutions and other public systems.

Child Rights of Transgender Children

In collaboration with the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Prantakatha helped bring the rights and needs of transgender and gender-diverse children into formal child-rights discourse. Listening and research across five districts informed recommendations for the Government of West Bengal and greater recognition of child rights beyond the gender binary.
